Let’s talk about the nutritional value of mushrooms first
Why eat mushrooms? The answer is simple, as this fungus contains a lot of nutrients, especially when compared to other vegetables.
To start, mushrooms have a high number of B vitamins, all of which are usually only found in animal products. Getting them from mushrooms help vegetarians avoid a nutritional deficiency that can be very serious.
Also, mushrooms are relatively high in protein when compared with other vegetables. That is why they are a chosen meat substitute. In case you hadn’t noticed too, the texture can be chewy and resemble meat.
Unlike other foods, this fungus is also a great source of vitamin D. That’s a nutrient most likely lacking in your diet if you don’t consume dairy or don’t get enough sunlight.
Finally, the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in mushrooms, along with the polysaccharides, make this vegetable a true superfood.
You can get healthy fats when you eat them. This helps maintain healthy skin, improves neural connections, and gives your body energy.
The polysaccharides in mushrooms, on the other hand, promote better digestion and absorption of nutrients. This is key when you only rely on vegetables.
And for added protein, bring on the cheese!
Feta cheese is one of the healthiest kinds of cheese out there. So when mixing it with mushrooms, you are giving your body an extra boost. This cheese is high in protein, low in fat, and contains a good amount of calcium. Try this California-mushroom pizza and give your diet the best nutrients it needs!
